Founded in Brooklyn, New York in 1939, Culver Industries is the premier purveyor of decorated glassware for retail establishments. The original vintage 22 karat gold patterns of Culver are extensive – from gilded mushrooms, owls, cats, Egyptian and Asian inspired design themes, scrolling leaf patterns, holiday designs, sports motifs and many others. The gilded Moroccan-style trellis and raised emerald green diamonds of the Valencia pattern (shown above) became their most popular pattern in cocktail ware. These vintage Culver designs are highly collectible and remain popular today.
In the 1980’s and 90’s, the Culver brand continued to flourish, and during that period Culver was the largest importer of ice buckets and bar accessories in the United States. In 1996 Culver Industries was purchased by Moderne Glass Company, Inc., also a long- standing drinkware decorator with an extensive retail background. Moderne Glass was founded in 1968. The current owner Tom McKnight, President/CEO, purchased Moderne Glass in 1978. Moderne Glass is currently one of the largest decorators of drinkware in the $21 billion promotional products industry. They have had the honor of being voted the best drinkware decorator in the industry for the past 15 consecutive years. Culver Industries became the exclusive glassware decorator of worldrenowned Fiesta in 1997. The colorful multi-color designs on the glassware were designed to complement the many different colors of the Fiesta dinnerware. This glassware selection is currently sold through major retailers such as Dillard’s, Belk, Bon-Ton, Boscov’s, Macy’s, Kohl’s and many others. Culver is also a licensed decorator for Keith Kimberlin, MoMA, and Ned Smith.Through state-of-the-art equipment and many cutting-edge decorating processes,Culver’s most recent endeavor has been the resurrection of the deep-rooted, vintage Culver designs with a contemporary twist. Through an in-house designer, the vintage Culver designs have all been recreated with a fresh perspective utilizing modern decorating techniques.
